The ISHLT Extracorporeal Photopheresis Immunomodulation in Thoracic Transplantation Challenge Grant is awarded annually during the annual meeting of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation. Endowed with up to USD 90,000, the research grant supports innovative projects focusing on the application of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) in thoracic transplantation medicine.
During the official Selection Session on April 23, 2026, five international finalists presented their research proposals to a distinguished jury at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Sophia Alemanno from the Medical University of Vienna – University Clinic for Thoracic Surgery successfully prevailed with her project against finalists from leading centers including NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center, Banner Heart Institute / University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix, Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences, and University of Utah.
