And the award goes to ... Sophia Alemanno receives two awards at AUSTROTRANSPLANT 2025 in Schladming

Austrotransplant, the Austrian Society for Transplantation, Transfusion, and Genetics, has awarded Dr. Sophia Alemanno the Austrotransplant Start Grant for her research project “Extracorporeal photopheresis as immunomodulatory therapy of subclinical antibody-mediated rejection and chronic lung allograft dysfunction: a prospective randomized controlled trial.”

The Start Grant, a research fellowship of €20,000, supports young scientists in the field of transplantation research. The project investigates the immunomodulatory effects of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) in lung transplantation and is conducted within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Doctoral Network “exTra”, under the supervision of Priv.-Doz. Dr. Alberto Benazzo.

Dr. Alemanno’s poster presentation, which addressed methodological aspects of the same project, received the Astellas Poster Award (endowed with €500).

The award ceremony took place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, during the AUSTROTRANSPLANT Annual Meeting in Schladming.

We warmly congratulate Dr. Alemanno on these achievements!
